Structural Characterization of Macromolecular Assemblies
We are working in the design and structural and functional characterization of somatostatin analogues with the group of Dr. Antoni Riera, PI of the asymmetric synthesis unit in the Chemistry department.
We plan to obtain new bioactive somatostatin analogues based on the natural somatostatin scaffold but displaying enhanced stability and selectivity towards the five SSTR receptors. The design will expand our previous work where we have uncovered some of the key parameters that define the bioactive conformation of somatostatin regarding the SSTR2 receptor. In addition, we will prepare conjugates of the new analogs (with a longer half life and higher specificity towards each of the five SSTR receptors) with currently used cytotoxic agents, and test both their interaction with receptors and their performance delivering cytotoxic agents to cells.
